The Immigration Service Delivery have updated their notice regarding immigration permissions that are due to expire between the 20th of August 2020 and 20th of September 2020.

The Notice states that non-EU/EEA nationals who are present in the State with an immigration permission that is due to expire between the 20th of 2020 and 20th of September 2020 will automatically have their permission to remain extended  by the Minister for Justice and Equality for a further one month period. This includes individuals who are currently in the State on Short Stay C visas.

The extension also applies to non-EU/EEA nationals who are residing in the State with existing permission under Directive 2004/38/EC (Free Movement Directive), subject to the requirement that the person is complying with the requirements of the Directive.

Temporary Closure of Garda National Immigration Bureau and Regional Registration Offices outside of Dublin

The Garda National Immigration Bureau located at Burgh Quay, Dublin 2 has closed temporarily as at the 18th of August. Appointments already scheduled for the 19th, 20th and 21st of August are cancelled and will be rescheduled. The ISD have confirmed that a further notice will issue in this regard later in the week.

Similarly, garda registration offices located outside of Dublin have also temporarily closed with appointments which issued for the 19th, 20th and 21st of August to be rescheduled.

Whilst the further temporary extension of immigration permissions for a one month period is most welcome and provides reassurance to individuals with expiring immigration permissions, the closure again of immigration offices without notice is simply unacceptable, particularly for those residing outside of Dublin who cannot avail of the online renewal system and it is incumbent that the ISD immediately rectify the registration system which is clearly not fit  for purpose in its current format.
